It is with great sorrow that the family of William G. "Bill" Turton announces his death. Bill passed away in his home, with family by his side, at noon on June 1, 2014 at the age of 83 after a brief illness He was born on 21 March 1931 in Springlake, NC He is preceded in death by his Mother Annie B. Turton Moyer, Father William Udell Turton and Stepmother Mildred "Polly" Parish Turton, former wife and the mother of his children Freda M. Fournerat Turton; Sister Margie Proctor (Bill), brother in-law Jay Mac Oehler Survivors left to cherish his memory are his two children daughter Denise Turton Richard (Raymond) Son William R. "Bill" Turton (Kay), three sisters, beloved Jackie Oehler; Patsy Blackwood (Charles) both of Charlotte, NC and Doris Nunn (Jim) Statesville, NC, brother Glen A. Turton (Sue) Pell City AL, Grand daughter Kelly Langley, Grandsons Troy, Chris (Angela) and Trent Turton; and his companion of many years Ruta Fay. Four great grand daughters and three great grand sons; and numerous nieces and nephews Bill graduated from Derita High School in Derita, NC. He then enlisted in the United States Air force in 1951 serving in Africa and England. He was honorably discharged in 1955 as Staff Sergeant with the 806 Air Police Squadron. Bill had continued to attend annual 806 Air Police Squadron Reunions over all the years, including attending 2014 reunion in March. Bill then began a career as a fire alarm operator with the Lake Charles Fire Department. He respectively served for 27 years retiring in 1982 as Division Chief Fire Alarm operator. Bill was a Member of John C. Ayers Lake Charles Masonic Lodge #165, Past Master 32nd degree: a Member of LC Scottish Rite, and a Member of LC Habibi Temple. Bill and Ruta were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. "PawPaw" entertained and enjoyed telling stories of his time in the military and his many vehicles of the past, especially the Red 1948 Chrysler convertible often seen cruising around Chennault Air Force Base. Being from North Carolina surrounded by the sport of NASCAR and he still enjoyed watching NASCAR races on TV as long as the race did not interfere with his Lawrence Welk reruns. He always had a nickname for everyone including referring to himself as "Wild Bill". His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Tim Morris and Tim Mahoney will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Tuesday, with a Eulogy at 6:00 PM, and continue from 9:00 AM until time of services, Wednesday, in the funeral home The family would like to express special thanks to Amedisys staff, sitter Sandy Smith, Nurse Doty Fry, and his loyal companion Ruta Fay.
