William George Bill Albrecht, Jr., Phd

William George "Bill" Albrecht, Jr., PhD, 51, of Lake Charles died at 3:10 PM on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Albrecht was born on July 6, 1961 in Roslynn, NY. He and his family previously resided in New Port Richey, FL as well as Tampa, FL before moving to Lake Charles 5 years ago. Mr. Albrecht was a member of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church. He was very involved in Boy Scouts as a leader.

He held employment at several colleges including Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Richey, FL, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, and University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. Mr. Albrecht moved to Lake Charles and worked at McNeese State University as the head of the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics, the coordinator of the Academic Computing and Learning Center, and Associate Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics.

Mr. Albrecht was a member and past treasurer of Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics, a member of SWLA Teachers of Math, a member of MMA on the Louisiana, Mississippi, and national levels, and also of ACM and IEEE. He co-authored several math books and was co-founder of the Computer and Science Honor Society.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lisa Albrecht of Lake Charles and their three children, Cody Brown, William Albrecht, III, and Alexandra Albrecht; a sister, Laura Williams of New Port Richey, FL; and an uncle, Charles Albrecht also of New Port Richey, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and William Albrecht, Sr.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Luke Simpson University United Methodist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Karl Klaus will officiate. Cremation will take place following the visitation on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the funeral home. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
