William Harvey Fletcher

October 16, 1932 — November 22, 2012

William Harvey Fletcher, 80, of Lake Charles died at 4:33 AM on Thursday, November 22, 2012 in his residence.


Mr. Fletcher was born on October 16, 1932 in Lake Charles, LA where he lived all of his life. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and served our country in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he attended McNeese State University. In his earlier years, he worked for United Gas where he met his future wife. He then became the purchasing agent for the City of Lake Charles under Mayor Jim Sudduth. Following retirement, he became purchasing agent for the Port of Lake Charles for five years.


For forty years, Mr. Fletcher was a member of Trinity Bible Missionary Church. Most recently he attended Pilgrim Nazarene Church in Westlake. He sang with the Messiah Chorus for forty years and also with the Masterworks Chorale.


His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his dog, Maggie.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Bobbie Murphy Fletcher of Lake Charles; four children, William Alan Fletcher and wife Adele of Edmond, OK, Susan Fletcher of Baton Rouge, Julie Pruett and husband Micah of Sulphur, and Kathy Banks and husband Nat of Westlake; a brother, Wayne Allen Fletcher and wife Debbie of Slidell, LA; a sister, Betty Fletcher of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, Brennan and Kourtney Brooks and Hayden and Cade Banks; eight step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Corrie and Bayard Fletcher and a brother, Jerry Fletcher.


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Adamson and Rev. Tony Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.


Contributions to the family will be donated to mission work in New Guinea.
