William Joseph Hoy

August 13, 1961 — July 31, 2021

The story of William Joseph Hoy began August 13, 1961 in Fort Riley, Kansas.  He was the fourth child born to Billy and Margie Hoy.  William faces many challenges growing up with a disability, but he was a true hero that never let his disability keep him from any task.

William was always kind to everyone and there was never a stranger he met who did not become his friend.  William went to Church Point High School where he was a member of the student council and one of the managers of the football team.  He attended Sowela Tech for computer operations/data entry.  William also attended McNeese State University, where he majored in criminal justice.  William worked at Dollar General for one year as a cashier and then worked in Guest Services for L’Auberge  Casino for seven years.  William gave his life to Jesus Christ at an early age.   He was extremely serious about his faith in Jehovah God and studied his Bible faithfully every week to learn all he could about his Creator.

William will be remembered by his sister, Billie Scalisi (Jerry), nephews Michael Scalisi (Becky) and Phillip Scalisi (Melina); niece CiCi Butler; great nieces, Baylee & Zoey Scalisi and Graci Lorraine Butler; great nephews, Wes Scalisi and Gregory Butler.  William was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gregory Butler, sister, Elizabeth Olia Trahan, and nephew Gregory Paul Butler.

William wanted to send a very special thank you to his sister, Billie Scalisi, for being a great sister and for taking great care of him when he first got sick and was in a serious car accident.  She was patient, loving, caring and supportive.  He also wanted to express very special thanks to Lupe and Wanda Ramirez for being friends, family, caregivers, and a support system for William—for seventeen years--always being there for him when he needed transportation to and from work and doctor appointments.  Special thanks also to his godchild and caregiver for years, Allen C. Anderson, Jr., to friend and caregiver Tracy Guidry, to Southwest Louisiana Independent Center (SLIC) for allowing William to be part of their outstanding program for seventeen years, to St. Joseph Hospice of SWLA, to all his dedicated nursing staff, to the Kingdom Expression Counseling, and to his niece CC for all the loving phone calls and conversations. He also wanted to mention Debra Richard Jackson, his incredible best friend since 2nd grade, and Mr. Rogers for always looking out for him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, August 9, 2021, at Simple Traditions by Johnson.  Reverend Harriett Chapman will officiate.  At his request, Williams’s cremated remains will be buried next to his brother at Green Oak Cemetery in Kinder following the service.
