William "Larry" Hood

William Larry Hood, 69, of Lake Charles, LA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Sulphur, LA.

Larry was born February 19, 1949 in LaGrange, GA and was raised in Sulphur, LA, where he was a 1967 graduate of Sulphur High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Following his discharge from the military, he received his Bachelor of Education from McNeese State University.  In 2017, Larry retired from Iowa Gas Plant, where he worked as a Control Room Operator, with over thirty years of service.  He was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he shared his love for singing in the choir.  Larry enjoyed working at his own pace, loved helping anyone with projects, had a generous heart and enjoyed camping.  He had a great love of the Lord and enjoyed sharing the Gospel with others.  His true passion in life was for his wife and his family, whom he always put first in his life.  He was a true “Gentle”-man.

Mr. Hood is survived by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Vicky Owen Hood of Lake Charles; children, Amy Hood Lopez of Fayetteville, NC, Jeremy William Hood and wife Heather Sweatman Hood of Buford, GA, Amanda Hood Keller and husband Justin of Lake Charles, Joshua Owen Hood and wife Brittany of Lake Charles, and Jacob Allan Hood and wife Jamie of Lake Charles; parents, Bill and Sue Hood of Sulphur, LA; brother, Richard Reed Hood of Sulphur, LA; sister, Suzette Marie Wood and husband Brian of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Elena Perez, Tyler Hood, Izzy Hood, Immy Hood, Andrew Hood, Kara Hood Nicolas Garibay, Victoria Keller, and Rowen Keller; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Pastor Randy Monroe will officiate.  Cremation will follow the service.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
