William Robert Brady

William Robert "Bill" Brady, 88, of Moss Bluff, died at 3:00 PM Monday October 10, 2011 at his residence.


Mr. Brady was a native of Cameron, New York and lived in Moss Bluff for the past 42 years. He joined the Army Air Corps. On December 8, 1941 and transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he served as a gunman on a B-17 bomber. While on a mission over Austria, Mr. Brady's plane was shot down, killing all but three crew members Mr. Brady was captured by the German Army and placed in the infamous Stalig 17 B where he spent 18 months in confinement. After his liberation from Stalig 17 B, Mr. Brady continued to serve in the Air Force as a pilot instructor until his retirement in 1962. He served during three wars, WW II, Korea and Vietnam. For his distinguished service, Mr. Brady was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with an Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters.


After his retirement, Mr. Brady was a crop duster pilot for Lyon's Flying Service and Louisiana Flyers and also taught flying lessons. For the past twenty years, Mr. Brady enjoyed feeding the deer and other wildlife at Sam Houston State Park. .


He was preceded in death by his parenrts William and Ethel Brady, one brother, James Brady, two sisters, Nancy and Grace Brady and a grandchild Brady Ryan Miller. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda Cook Brady; two sons, Robert Brady and wife Karen, Sandy, Utah, and Ricky Brady and wife Christy, Moss Bluff; two daughters, Patti Quarles and husband Gerald, Lake Charles, and Brandy Brady, Lake Charles; two step sons, Tommy Armstrong, Lakeview, AR; and John Armstrong and wife Lisa, Moss Bluff; one stepdaughter, Lynn Tete and husband Greg, Moss Bluff, one brother, Richard Brady, New York; 9 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.


Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Fuselier officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens with full military honors.
