Willie Joseph McBride, 96, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 10:11 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in a local hospital.
Mr. McBride was born February 13, 1924 in Rayne, LA. He rode his bicycle to Lake Charles where he began driving a taxicab and them moved his family here. He spent several years in construction, where he learned how to build houses and then worked as a longshoreman. He later was the owner and operator of McBride’s Roller Disco. Mr. McBride was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He always enjoyed building cabinets and tinkering and could fix anything set before him. He will always be remembered for his humble nature and was thankful for everyone in his life.
Mr. McBride is survived by his four sons, Willie Dean McBride and wife Tam of Georgia, Melvin “Ray” McBride and fiancée Mary Chambers of Sulphur, Rene McBride and wife Tammy of Lake Charles, and Troy Kim McBride of Lake Charles; along with twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel McBride; his parents; and all of his brothers and sisters.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at University Baptist Church, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Jody Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the start of the services.
