Willie V. Landry, 93, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to James Willie McCullor and Marshey Asaley Allen McCullor. Mrs. Landry made Lake Charles her home in 1937 following her graduation from Pleasant Hill High School. She attended McNeese State University and was Recreational Supervisor at Drew Park for the City of Lake Charles for 31 years, retiring in 1983. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader for many years, a PTA leader, and coached Girls' Softball and Basketball for the City Recreation League. Mrs. Landry was known as the "ping pong champion," taking first place many times in the city-wide recreational park competition. She shared her love of the sport, teaching many young people to play the game. Her mantra was "to know the rules and play the game competitively". Mrs. Landry helped organize Senior Olympics and served on the local Board as Treasurer for ten years. Mrs. Landry has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles since 1939. She was a Sunday school teacher, Training Union Director, and a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Landry is survived by her four loving children, Sandra Lee Moore and husband Nolan of Lake Charles, Marsha Irene Chapman and husband Ted of Sulphur, Dr. Richard Edward Landry and wife Gaye, and Willie Ruth Mount, all also of Lake Charles; ten grandchildren, Melissa Moore Ross (Don), Connie Moore Miller (Robert), Tom Moore (Stacey), Julie Moore Miller (Joe), Laurel Landry Carleton (Mark), Wendy Landry Lechtenberg (Keith), Leslie Landry Bradley (Rex), Kelly Lynne Landry, Jessica Chapman Forsyth (Brad), Jared B. Chapman (Erin) and twenty-three great grandchildren, Emily and Wilhelmina Ross, Connor and Kirby Miller, Thomas, Sandlin and Banks Moore, Dietz, Grayson and Rosamond Miller, Camille and Richard Carleton, Maddie, Abbie and Callie Lechtenberg, Isabella, Julia and Anna Bradley, Walker, Truett and Cecilia Forsyth, and Byler and Amelia Chapman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Lee Robert Landry, her son-in-law, Ben Mount, her parents, two sisters, Gladys Mae Champion and Margaret Orvella Malone and two brothers, Vernel Lee McCullor and WJ McCullough. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Reverends Steve James and Weldon Bares will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Friday will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation Saturday will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service at First Baptist.
