Windel Lee Rickey Richard, 79, died Friday August 16, 2013 in the comfort of his son's home in Lake Charles, surrounded by his loving family.
Rickey was born on November 24, 1933 to Simar and Anna Bertrand Richard. He was raised and educated in Kaplan, LA. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he worked in construction for many years before working for and retiring from the United States Postal Service. He coached baseball for many years and followed his son's games, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was of the Catholic Faith. A member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, he served as lay minister, alter server, lector and was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross by Bishop Jude Speyrer of the Lake Charles Diocese for his faithful service to the Church.
Preceding Rickey in death are one daughter, Therese Henry and a sister, Irene Broussard.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Salvador Tramonte Richard, Lake Charles; two sons, Rickey G. Richard and wife Alaina, and Roger J. Richard, both of Lake Charles; brother, Lee Ray Richard and wife Carey, Lake Charles; nine grandchildren, Sara Arnold and husband Josh, Lake Charles; Paulette Moss, Sulphur; Darrell Fontenot and wife Kim, Georgia; Brooke Ancelet and husband Emile, Lafayette; Hope Broussard and husband Chris, Sulphur; Rikki K. Richard, Lafayette and Halee Grace Richard, Lafayette; Courtney and Trey Stelly, Lake Charles; and nine great grandchildren, Landon and Logan Arnold, Collin and Cadence Fontenot, Reece and Piper Broussard, Katlyn and Gabriella Moss and Conner Laughlin.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM today, Sunday August 18, 2013 at Johnson Funeral home with a Scripture Service and Rosary to be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM Monday at Johnson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday August 19, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Father Herbert May, Celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will be at Consolota Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Christus St. Patrick Hospice, especially Elaine Miller and Roxanne Ogea for the kind and compassionate care shown to our husband and father during his illness.
