Winston A. Morton

Winston A. Morton, 89, of Lake Charles died at 6:30 AM Saturday, October 2, 2010, in a Lake Charles care center.


Mr. Morton was born in Jennings and moved to Lake Charles at an early age where he attended Landry Memorial High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served during World War II. After his tour of duty he returned to Lake Charles and went to work as an accountant for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Mr. Morton was active with the Civil Defense during Hurricane Audrey and in 1970 he joined the Lake Charles Citizen's Patrol. He also worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department as a School Crossing Guard and provided security at McNeese Athletic Events. Mr. Morton was a life member of W. B. Williamson Post #1 of the American Legion and also a life member of Louis Lust Chapter #17 of the DAV.


He is survived by his wife, Alice Kathleen Broussard Morton of Lake Charles: one daughter, Margaret Blakely of Lake Charles; two sons Robert E. Welch and wife Vicki of El Dorado Hills, CA and Thomas Welch and wife Liz of Beaumont and five grandchildren: two nephews, Roland Morton, Jr. and David Morton. His parents and a brother, Roland Morton, preceded him in death.


Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 7, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, and continue from 9:00 AM until time of service, Tuesday, in the funeral home.
