Winston Overton Land

September 28, 1934 — April 4, 2018

Winston Land, 83, peacefully went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday morning April 4, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mr. Land was born September 28, 1934 in DeQuincy, LA. He graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1953, where he was a standout track and field athlete. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S Army and served until 1956. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served until his retirement in 1976. He moved back to the Lake Charles area, where he worked for CITGO as a pipefitter until his retirement in July, 1992.

Winston was affectionately known as “Granddad” to all who knew him. Granddad was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He passionately encouraged and supported each grandchild’s endeavor.

He was known for his dry, quick wit; laced with sarcasm and always delivered with a straight face. Family gatherings never lacked in laughter. He will be missed by all.

Mr. Land is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Carol Ann Chitty Land of Lake Charles; three sons, Werner and wife Michelle of Holmwood, LA, Kevin and wife Edie of Lake Charles, LA and Paul of Lake Charles, LA; sister Sharon Rozas of Moss Bluff, LA; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Sylvia Land; brothers Werner, Harry Lee, John, James, Robert, William and Tommy; sisters, Irma, Katherine and Mary; and granddaughter Lauren Ashley.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 7, 2018 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Jeremiah Land will officiate. Burial will follow at Lorraine-Derouen Cemetery in Hayes, LA. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service.
