Woodrow Chatagnier

March 27, 1928 — March 4, 2021

Woodrow Wilson Joseph Chatagnier, 92, went to be home with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at his residence in Sulphur, LA. Mr. Chatagnier was born in Lockport, LA and was a lifelong resident of Iowa, LA until he moved to Sulphur in 2004.

Mr. Chatagnier proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was an instrumental engineer in the oilfields in West Texas. In 1986, he retired from Otis and moved home to Louisiana. Mr. Chatagnier was a member and served as a deacon of Victory Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Mr. Chatagnier was an active member of the Silver Saints where he served as a man of God. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, playing dominos, wood working and spreading God’s word.

Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are 10 grandchildren, Kimberly (Donald) Gaskill, Michael (Denise) Tabor, John (Kimberly) Armstrong, Melissa (Paul) Bader, Teresa (Kenneth) Engledow, Tamera Lowery, Blaine (Jill) Lanclos, Glenn (Melinda) Lanclos, Melinda (Glenn) Guidry, and Mark Blackmon; great-grandchildren, Kristina (Garrett) Daigle, Jonathan Spivey, Rachel (Jon) Henry, Matthew Tabor, Hannah Tabor, Nathan Tabor, Amber (Clayton) Lanclos, Landon Lanclos, Noah Lanclos, Aiden Lanclos, Chloe Lanclos, Joshua Taylor, Courtlyn Taylor, Monica Guidry, Paige Blackmon, Natalie Engledow, Brittany Engledow, Emily (David) Boyd, Chase Myers, Dakota Myers, Austin (Lauren) Armstrong, Courtney (Ian) Gust, Randall (Danielle) Fleming, and Amanda (Nicholas) Zamora; great-great grandchildren, Johnny Fleming, Dean Fleming, Roy Fleming, Andrew Fleming, Courtney (Gareth) Lawson, Abigail Zamora, Evan Zamora, Jonathan Henry, Elijah Henry, Amy Henry, Andrew Gust, Ila Gust, Kyce Daigle, Brodee Daigle, Emrye Daigle, Brydon Spivey, and Arabella Spivey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle Chatagnier and later his girlfriend, Ethel Perry. All three of his daughters, Linda Armstrong, Mary Blackmon-Moreau, and Jo Rita Schooley. Son-in-law, Douglas Blackmon; two great-grandsons, Andrew Fleming and Eric Spivey; his parents, Walter and Celestine Chatagnier; five brothers, Bill, Joe, John, Paul, and Gilford Chatagnier; and two sisters, Hilda Laughlin and Cecila Rizzuto.

His funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. Rev. Wayne Dartez will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
