Yleta “Wee” Hammett, 73, of Sulphur, LA passed away on January 20, 2024, in a local hospital surrounded by her loving family. Wee was born on July 23, 1950, in DeQuincy, LA to Richard and Vera Young. Wee’s greatest and most cherished moments in her life were spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She also loved being around family and friends, cooking, cutting grass, and camping surrounded by her loved ones. Wee taught special need children at W.T. Henning Elementary School for 20 years and enjoyed being around all of the children she taught.
Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Jimmy Hammett; three children, Thomas “Allen” White and partner Jennie Maples, Yancey White and wife Mechelle, and Bradley Hammett and wife Christine; daughter in law, Theresa Padon; one nephew, Randy Young; 23 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; brother in law, Dean Hammett; sisters in law, Aquilla Young and Patricia Maynard, whom she was very close to and loved all three dearly; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two children, Scott Campbell and Melissa Dawn Hammett; one nephew, Rodney Young; one grandson, Billy Don Fredericks; and four siblings, Pete Young, Richard “Dick” Young, John Pat Young, and Juanita Young Talley.
A memorial service for Wee will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home at 3 PM. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until the time of service.
Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
