Yvonne Marie Pharr

January 10, 1932 — April 20, 2016

Yvonne Vidrine Pharr passed on to the Great Tennis Court and After Party. A fierce competitor to the end, her match ended the morning of April 20th, surrounded by her family.   Known for her sense of humor and wit, her love and loyalty to her incredible friends was only matched by her dedication to the Catholic Church.

The Lake Charles community will forever remember her public spirit and her co-founding of the Dilettantes Book Club, the Oak Park Cabana Club, the Lake Charles Racquet Club, and the Krewe of Mistique.

Yvonne served as the first female President of the LC Racquet Club and as a board member of the Louisiana Tennis Association. Her long time tennis partner, Betty Stevens, recollected how the fearsome twosome terrorized the La. ladies’ tennis circuit for years.

Her civic commitment began as a Tri Delta at LSU, and continued as a member of the Lake Charles Junior League. A born educator, Yvonne taught 5th grade in the Lake Charles City School system and catechism at Our Lady Queen of Heaven school.

Originally from Oakdale, Louisiana, Yvonne will forever be loved by her husband of 58 years, Bill, her brother Viard Vidrine, and her children and their spouses: Katie and Shaun Rafferty & Jenny and Keith Chunn of New Orleans; Lucy and Danny Simone of Dallas; and Billy Pharr IV, of Lake Charles.   Her pride for her eleven grandchildren knew no limits. She adored Barkley, Nigel and Patrick Rafferty; Daniel, Jack and Kate Simone; Andrew, Caroline and Spencer Chunn; and Quinn and Drew Pharr.   Yvonne rejoins her beloved parents Grover and Katie O’Brien Vidrine, her sister, Mary Katherine Vidrine Ashy, and her brother Remie Vidrine.

Her family thanks Drs. King White, Ron Lewis, Clifford Courville, and the amazing nursing staffs at Memorial Hospital and Harbor Hospice- and her dear friends who are too numerous to mention.

Visitation is Friday, April 22 from 4-8pm at Johnson Funeral Home, with a Rosary prayed at 6:30pm. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will celebrate a memorial Mass on Saturday, April 23rd at 10:00 am.
