Yvonne Vidrine Verrette

May 12, 1931 — June 24, 2021

Yvonne Vidrine Verrette, 90, of Cave City, AR passed away at 12:40 AM on Thursday, June 24, 2021 in a Batesville, AR hospital.

Mrs. Verrette was born on May 12, 1931 in Ville Platte, LA. She grew up in Vidrine, LA, which was founded by her uncle Dr. Julius Vidrine and graduated from Vidrine High. After marrying Leroy Verrette on October 1, 1949, they resided in Mamou until 1956, when they moved to Lake Charles. In 1968 they made Westlake their home, these were the years of family vacations, making memories with family and friends and welcoming grandchildren.

When her husband passed away in 1985, she remained in the area until moving to Hot Springs Village, AR in 1999 with her daughter Roxie. She developed lasting friendships while living there. Being able to share her Cajun cooking, heritage and humor brought her much joy. She enjoyed the natural beauty and peacefulness of the area but was in constant battle with the squirrels over her bird feeders!

Health issues changed her independent living capabilities in 2013. After a couple of years in a Hot Springs nursing facility she moved to Cave City Nursing Home. This location not only became her home but it gave her an opportunity to enjoy social activities. She participated in the Senior Olympics, the Sr. Miss Sharp County Pageant, as well as serving as President of the Resident Council. While she enjoyed the scheduled social activities, her time spent crocheting was an act of love. She made numerous tiny red hats for the “Little Hats Big Hearts” program. Where her generosity poured over onto the staff with many of them receiving hats, scarves or keepsake bags, their generous acts of kindness, love and compassion brought a smile to her face. Roxie and Gretta have enjoyed hearing the personal stories from the loving staff and say “Thank you for caring for our mom.”

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas as well as Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where she was a Catholic Daughter. Mrs. Verrette also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Autumn Leaves Friendship Club.  She also volunteered with Council on Aging Meals on Wheels Program.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Gretta Verrette Caillouet of Sulphur and Roxie Verrette Fuselier (Don Walls) of Cave City, AR, formerly of Westlake; two grandsons, Corey Caillouet (Leah) of Mount Juliet, TN and Joel Caillouet (Amber) of Sulphur; five great grandchildren, Ethan, Austyn, Addyson, Benjamin, and Bryson; and three bonus great grandchildren, Connor, Maggie, and Grady.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leroy Verrette; her parents, Zoe and Numa Vidrine; and eleven siblings.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin at University Baptist Church on Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Thursday from 9:00 AM until leaving for St. Martin de Porres at 10:45 AM.
