Yvonne Yongue Guidroz, was born March 8, 1924 in Broussard, LA. She attended St. Cecilia Catholic School through elementary and high school. Upon graduation, she attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (presently ULL) for two years, then went to Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. Yvonne was a Music Supervisor in Lafayette Parish until her marriage in 1946 and then moved to Lake Charles in 1951 where she studied business, and worked as a Committee Secretary for the Association of Commerce, from where she retired to be an “at home” mother. She was a rehearsal pianist and also pianist for the Junior League Follies and Cabaret. Yvonne was on the Board of Directors of the Billeaud Companies in Lafayette Parish until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of and held board and officer positions with the Lake Charles Genealogical Society. Yvonne was a parishioner of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church and was a 15 year member of the Come Lord Jesus Society.
Affectionately called “Mom” by her family and friends, she loved life and was a gifted pianist. It was very rare, at social and family gatherings, that she wasn’t asked to play and was always gracious and accommodating. Being outgoing and enthusiastic, Mom would always extend herself to others and she never met a stranger. Her greatest joy in life was to be at family functions with her beloved husband, children and grandchildren with their spouses, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, of 69 years, James Alvin “Al” Guidroz, two children, Patricia “Peg” Guidroz Clark and husband Harry Clark of Lake Charles and Russell “Rusty” Guidroz and wife Theresa of Lake Charles Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Robert C. White (Teresa) of Lake Charles, Melissa G. Gaskin (Byron) of Lake Charles, Patrice W. Garcia (Mario) of Frisco, TX., Jennifer G. Humble (Sean) of Katy, TX., and John Russell Guidroz of Lake Charles, her step grandchildren: Kelly C. Clary of Lake Charles, Aaron Smith (Emily) of Enid, OK., Kara Smith of Lake Charles & Lindsey Barrow (Micah) of Longville, LA; her (7) great grandchildren: Savannah & Jacob White, Mia and Maggie Gaskin, Kyle and Charlie Humble, Nixon Garcia and her (9) step great grandchildren: Hope, Ty and Bailey Smith, Josie & Ella Guidry, Jackson Cormier, and Cy, Drew and Wes Barrow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William Johnston Yongue, Sr. and Goldie Marie Billeaud Yongue, two brothers, William Johnston Yongue, Jr., Charles Prince Yongue, and one sister Patricia Yongue Chiquelin.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday April 1, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home with a Rosary to begin at 5:00 PM. A Memorial service will follow the rosary, with Monsignor Harry Grieg officiating. Visitation will resume following the memorial service until 8:00 PM Friday evening. Burial will be on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Broussard, LA with Father William Ruskowski officiating the Committal Rites.
