Zigfried John Conrad

On Monday, March 22, 2021, Zigfried, aka “Ziggy,” aka “Johnny” Conrad, age 76, passed away at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles, surrounded by family and friends.

Ziggy was born May 23, 1944 in Lithuania, and moved to Chicago after World War II with his family.  Ziggy served four years in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged at Fort Polk, Louisiana.  While in the service, Ziggy met Ella Marie Istre.  They married on May 22, 1965.  Ziggy retired as Lieutenant after faithfully serving for thirty-five years with the Harbor Police at the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal.

Ziggy had a passion for boating.  He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Calcasieu Boat Club, and the Buccaneers of Lake Charles.  He was a member of Calcasieu Lodge 400, the Scottish Rite Lodge, the Habibi Shriners, and the Krewe of Illusions.  If there was something he wanted to do, he always found a way, learned, and made it happen.  He was a prankster, and loved harassing his friends at “Jean Lafitte Contraband Days,” and later at “camp outings” with many friends.  In earlier days, he loved fishing, hunting, and recently RV camping.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his wife, Ella Conrad; his sister, Vergie Buzenas (Rinantas); his stepsister, Nijole Hruebec (Ron); three nieces, Ausra, Ruthie, and Rita; and two nephews, Robert and Rommy.

Ziggy was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Konradas, and his stepfather, Joe Narvaisis, his mother Margaret, and his brother, Tommy Narvaisis.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
